THE SUBJECT OF "DEBUNKING"
~This article is in no way directed at anyone or any teams. It was inspired by a couple of friends.~
The subject of debunking has come up a lot lately. As investigators, it's natural that we will have questions about a photo or a video posted by a team or individual. I am always curious what kind of camera was used, what the weather conditions were, how many people were there, etc. I ALWAYS ask questions if the photo fascinates me. Just because I ask questions, does not mean I don't believe your claim, but that I want to get an idea of how things were so that I know what YOU know.
Something that I find is NOT necessary is debunking someone's photo that has NOT asked for your opinion. It's just BAD MANNERS. Only the person or the team that was there knows what went on, what the conditions were, etc. It's understandable you want people to be educated about the different scenarios that cause camera, film errors, or even orbs. People are going to believe what they want to. What purpose does it serve to try and convince them of what you believe? It only causes animosity, hurt feelings, and that is not what the paranormal field is about. We need to find ways of working together and educating eachother without knocking eachother down, or making the person feel like you think they don't know what they're doing. I'm all for the paranormal teams who get together to do joint investigations because it is a way of learning from eachother in a positive way.
So next time someone posts up a photo and calls it paranormal, if you don't believe it is, please do the polite thing and keep scrolling. Perhaps something positive would be to educate people with your own photos or videos where you have caught anomalies that can be explained.
Simply stated, it is just SAD that there are so many people who have faked photos and videos that we have all become quite skeptical. I believe we should all trust in those in the paranormal field until they give us a reason not to trust them. And even then, give them the respect they deserve.
